The beauty and charm of cats has enchanted many writers, artists and sculptors over the years, including ancient civilisations thousands of years in our past.

The Gayer-Anderson cat is a bronze figure depicting one form of the goddess Bastet. The goddess was usually shown as a cat-headed woman, or in the form of a cat. Her principal cult centre was Bubastis in the Nile Delta. Bastet was a mother goddess and benign counterpart to the more aggressive lion goddess Sekhmet.

The cat dates from the Late Period of ancient Egypt around 600 BC. It's named after Major Robert Grenville Gayer-Anderson, who donated the statue to the British Museum in 1939. Gayer-Anderson was a keen collector of small Egyptian sculptures, jewellery and pottery. He showcased these in his home in Cairo, now known as the Gayer-Anderson Museum. An outstanding ancient artifact transformed into a modern day pop shape for any home or collection.

Please note Medicom Toy use a hydro-printing method to create unique and detailed print coverage, because of this every Bearbrick will differ slightly in design. Units are all brand new, sealed and selected at random.
