Is it decorative, is it informative, is it symbol?
The history of the embroidered red border, red name, white body patch dates back over 100 years to "service" workwear. Commonly seen through out gas station, and service station attire, although it does date back further to rail road wear.
The stylised convention then carried over to other service based jobs throughout various parts of the planet, from chemists, to waiters, factory workers to delivery men of the 50s or there abouts.
It is as iconic now, as it was then.
Embroidered front chest area, embroidered woven hem tag.
Heavyweight T-shirt, unisex cut.
